Fall tournaments begin with the Eagles traveling to Coastal Carolina for Coastal Carolina Invitational
STATESBORO, Ga. – After just over five months of waiting the Georgia Southern men's tennis team is back in action. The Eagles will travel to Conway, South Carolina to compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational with three other universities. Presbyterian, Appalachian State, and Coastal Carolina will join the Eagles in the first tournament of the fall.
"The guys are excited to go to the first tournament this fall." Head coach Sander Koning said. "I believe 3 out of the 4 teams that will be there have been affected by the hurricane in one way or another. This should make for some interesting matches. With everything that has been thrown at us this last week, we need to see these matches as a challenge and work our way through them. This tournament should tell us a lot about the kind of mindset we have this year."
Head coach Sander Koning enters his third season at the helm of the program posting a 40-31 record. The 2016-17 season was a historic one for the Blue and White, after posting a 19-12 record, becoming the first team since 2000-2001 to post back to back winning seasons. The 2016-17 Eagles were also the first team since 1983 to post an undefeated home season, as well as earned their first Sun Belt Tournament victory. Following last season the men's tennis team produced back to back years with the highest men's GPA at Georgia Southern.
Joining coach Koning this season is former Eagle Chris Kerrigan who will serve as the Volunteer Assistant coach. Kerrigan finished his senior season with the Blue and White posting a 10-10 record in doubles, playing primarily with fellow senior Dani Casablancas.
The Blue and White are returning 8 guys from last season and brought in three new comers. Sophomore Stefano Di Aloy enters his second season with the Eagles after posting a 19-8 record in singles play in 2017 earning him two conference awards at the postseason banquet.
