Wings Up: The 2017 Volleyblog

A weekly series of blogs from the volleyball team

This is a weekly series of blogs from the 2017 women's volleyball team. The second edition comes from senior Anna Wenger.

11565Tell the readers about how you see your role changing from a transfer as a junior to becoming a senior year captain. How do you look to lead this team throughout the year?

"As a transfer, I spent a lot of the summer and beginning of the season getting my footing at a new university and new team. Although faster than I anticipated, it took some time to build trust and earn respect from the team. Transitioning into my junior spring season and senior year, my role on the team has switched from solely leading by example to also vocally as a team captain. Throughout my senior season, I plan on leading the team through my actions, whether it be on the court or in the classroom. 'A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.' I think this quote is a perfect representation of my job as a leader and captain this season, and I plan on serving my team to my fullest ability to help us be successful."

The Eagles host the first of two tournaments in Hanner Fieldhouse each of the next two weekends. GS plays its home opener Friday at 7 p.m. against North Florida. The Eagles also host Bethune-Cookman (10 a.m.) and Charlotte (7 p.m.) Saturday.

Season tickets sales for Georgia Southern volleyball are currently underway, and one $40 season ticket covers general admission seating for all home matches. Parking is free.
