Eagles Best Coastal Carolina 3-2 to Take Series

- Georgia Southern Baseball scored a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to down Coastal Carolina 3-2 and take the weekend series. The Eagles won the final two games of the series to defeat the defending National Champions in their first meeting as conference opponents. The Eagles face Mercer twice next week before hosting Little Rock in Statesboro for the second-straight season.

Georgia Southern improves to 26-14 and owns the best overall record in the Sun Belt Conference. The Eagles close the weekend third in the East Division, one game behind South Alabama and a half game in back of Coastal Carolina for first place in the division at 11-7.

SCORING PLAYS
Bot 1st - GS 0 - CCU 1
- Coastal got a pair of hits in the first inning to string together a run and take an early 1-0 lead over the Eagles.
Bot 5th - GS 0 - CCU 2 - A pair of singles with two outs doubled the Coastal Carolina advantage at 2-0.
Top 7th - GS 1 - CCU 2 - A leadoff walk to Tyler Martin came around to score in the seventh with the help of a throwing error and a passed ball to get the Eagles on the scoresheet.
Top 8th - GS 3 - CCU 2 - Two walks, followed by a hit batter and another walk loaded the bases and tied the score at 2-2. Tyler Martin hit into a no outs double play to send another run home as the Eagles took their first lead of the day.

GAME NOTES
- Starting pitcher Chase Cohen was effective, allowing eight hits and two runs, one earned in his 5.1 innings of work. He walked one and struck out six, but did not factor in the decision.
- Connor Simmons picked up his fourth win of the season, improving to 4-0 on the year working 2.1 innings down the stretch. He did not allow a hit, but walked one and struck out another.
- Landon Hughes earned his sixth save of the year, retiring the final two outs in the game.
- Steven Curry picked up a leadoff hit for the second-straight game and went 2-for-5 on the day. Jordan Wren went 2-for-3 in the game with a walk while scoring the go ahead run.
- Georgia Southern has now won 11-straight road conference series by taking the final two games of the weekend.

NEXT UP
Georgia Southern has a pair of games scheduled this week against Mercer. The Eagles visit the Bears and their new-look ballpark on Tuesday night before hosting Mercer on Wednesday night. Both games are set for 6 p.m.
