Four Home Runs Hand the Eagles a 7-3 Loss to App State

Saturday's rubber match set for 1 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium

STATESBORO, GA. - Georgia Southern Baseball's eight game win streak over Appalachian State came to an end on Friday night as the Eagles dropped the second game of this weekend's Sun Belt series, 7-3. Four home runs by the Mountaineers in the third inning gave App State the win as a late charge by the Eagles fell short. The series concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a game that can be seen live on ESPN3.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Rodney Hennon
"We made some mistakes and they hurt us for it. I thought Brian (Eichhorn) made some great pitches in the first and second innings to get out of some jams, but his pitch count was getting up there early and he made some mistakes. Sometimes hitting can be contagious and their team walked up to the plate feeling pretty good about themselves and you've got to give them credit. They out hit us, they out pitched us, and we've got to pick ourselves and be ready to play tomorrow."

SCORING PLAYS
Bot 2nd - GS 1 - APP 0
- The Eagles were aggressive on the base paths as Tyler Martin made it to second on a pitch in the dirt, the throw down to second bounced then hit off Martin's foot, rolling into centerfield, allowing him to reach third. A sacrifice fly scored him to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Top 3rd - GS 1 - APP 7 - App State scored seven in the third with four home runs in the frame to blow the contest open.
Bot 7th - GS 2 - APP 7 - Mason McWhorter cut one off the Appalachian State advantage with an opposite field home run. His second home run of the season was a solo job that cut the lead to 7-2.
Bot 8th - GS 3 - APP 7 - Mitchell Golden singled to right, driving in Logan Baldwin from third base to make it a four run game with no outs in the inning. The Eagles were unable to add more runs in the frame, stranding two on in the eighth.
