STATESBORO, GA. - The Georgia Southern softball team returns home to host a midweek game against College of Charleston on Wednesday night. The Eagles and Cougars are scheduled to play a single game on Eagle Field at 6 p.m., admission to the game is free. The matchup will be streamed live on

College of Charleston enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 14-11. The Cougars finished off their nine-game home stand by going 3-1 in the Charleston Challenge tournament. They ended the weekend with an 8-7 win against Western Carolina where the Cougars rallied late in the game to overcome a four-run deficit and grab the win. CofC has fallen short to Georgia Southern over the years with a 27-45 all-time record. Now the team will travel to Statesboro, Georgia to meet the Eagles for the first and only time this season.
A key player on the roster for the Cougars this season freshman center/first baseman Taylor Belfiore, who ranks in the top 10 in the CAA in several offensive categories, including fourth in batting average at .388. She is also third in slugging percentage (.642), tied for third in home runs (4), tied for fifth in doubles (5) and tied for eighth in hits (26). So far this season Belfiore has homered against Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota State, Lafayette, and Western Carolina. Another standout player is junior third baseman Taylor DuPree, who's tied with Belfiore at .388 and is slugging .400. DuPree leads the team in runs scored (17), hits (31), and stolen bases (13).
In the circle is sophomore Brittant Violette who has earned an impressive 1.40 ERA on five starts and 16 appearances. Violette has pitched two complete games so far this year and has 30 strikeouts in 45.0 innings pitched. Freshman Izzy Berouty has also been an important part of the Cougars pitching staff, earning a 2.86 ERA on four starts and 13 appearances. Earlier this season Berouty allowed only five hits, struck out five, and did not walk a batter in 9.2 innings against Monmouth and Winthrop. It was after this performance she was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. College of Charleston heads back to home turf for the weekend to open conference play against Elon in a three-game series.
The Eagles sit at 13-13 overall, 1-2 in conference play after dropping the opening conference series to ULM this past weekend. Senior
Emily Snider is leading the offense with a .380 batting average, 21 RBIs and seven home runs.
Lydia Witkowski is second on the team with a .295 average, and right behind her is freshman
Mekhia Freeman with a .292 average.
Dixie Raley is 7-8 in the circle throughout 85.1 innings of work with a 2.87 ERA and 74 strikeouts.
