PREVIEW: GS Women's Basketball Hosts Stony Brook On ESPN3 Thursday

Eagles host the Seawolves in their final non-conference game of 2017-18

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's basketball squad hosts Stony Brook on Thursday in its final non-conference game of 2017-18. The Eagles host the Seawolves at 2 p.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse in the team's last chance to tune up for Sun Belt Conference play, which begins next week. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Georgia Southern (3-7) is looking to halt a four-game slide against Stony Brook (7-4), who comes in having won two in a row. This is the first meeting in school history between the Eagles and the Seawolves, who hail from New York and are members of the America East Conference.

Stony Brook has been a streaky team this season, winning its first five games of the season before suffering a four-game losing streak. Two of those losses, however, came in overtime - at Syracuse (L 80-71) and against Yale (L 77-71 2OT). The Seawolves snapped that slide by winning their last two, defeating Iona, 63-46, on Dec. 14 and Central Connecticut State, 60-55, on Sunday. Cheyenne Clark had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the last game for Stony Brook and has three double-doubles this season.

That sets up an intriguing matchup in the post with the Eagles' Sierra Butler, who notched her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds on Monday against IUPUI. Despite the 71-51 loss to the Jaguars, Georgia Southern hit 12-of-25 shots from the floor (48 percent) in the second half and outscored IUPUI 20-8 in the game's final quarter. Nakol Franks (9.3 ppg) continues to lead the Eagles offensively and has hit a team-best 20 three-pointers (2.0 per game) - as a freshman, Franks hit 26 threes in 28 games of action.

You can watch all the action from Thursday's game live on ESPN3, and listen to the audio call from Colin Lacy on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Live stats are also available on gseagles.com.
