Trojans Early Goals Too Much as Eagles Capture Sixth Seed

Eagles will face Troy in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. – On a cool and windy afternoon in Troy, Alabama, the Eagles looked to improve their seeding heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. A win would send the Eagles into the number three seed and any other result would lock the Eagles into the sixth seed.

The Trojans came out of the gates fast scoring in the first five minutes of the match to take an early 1-0 lead. Julia Winter began the scoring and the match stayed at 1-0 through the first 40 minutes of the game. Troy added a second just before half to put the pressure on the Eagles.

The second half began quickly for the Blue and White pressuring the Trojans and creating chances. In the 56th minute Corbin Mecca added an insurance goal and less than a minute later Ally Bayer would score her first goal of the season. She later would add her second goal of the season putting the Trojans on top 5-0.

The Eagles will now travel to Foley, Alabama and prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Blue and White will face off against Troy in the first round and will be looking for revenge Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. EST. All conference tournament matches will be broadcasted on ESPN3 beginning at 11:00 a.m. EST Wednesday morning.

WHAT HEAD COACH BRIAN DUNLEAVY SAID
"Poor performance across the board, we had a bad game, it was not indicative of who we are as a team. A lot of credit to Troy, they were superior and we played our part in making them look even better. I'm disappointed obviously but we have to move on. We get a chance to redeem ourselves on Wednesday."
