GS wraps up the fall with a trip to Kauai, Hawaii, and the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational Oct. 29-31. GS competes in the tournament for the second straight season, and the Eagles placed 11th of 19 teams at the event last season.Â
Georgia Southern has finished in the top-6 in eight of its last nine tournaments, dating back to last season, and the stretch began after the 2016 Princeville Makai Invitational.
The Eagles are coming off a tournament title at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic Oct. 17. Georgia Southern bested tournament host Georgia State by 24 strokes to claim its first team tournament title since the 2016 Invitational at the Ocean Course. The Eagles' team total of 847 tied for the eighth-lowest in school history.
Steven Fisk won the individual title for the second straight week and has seen his ranking climb to seventh in the country, according to Golfstat. The junior shot 66-66-65=197 over 54 holes to set the new tournament record and break the Georgia Southern school record by six strokes. Aron Price shot 203 in 2003 and 2005, and Buddy Alexander carded a 203 in the 1975 Schenkel Invitational. Fisk was a stroke better than Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss who posted a 198 to win the Autotrader last year. Fisk finished 19-under for the tournament to win by 12 strokes. He has 12 top-10 finishes in his career, including all three events this season, and was named the Sun Belt Golfer of the Week Oct. 19.
Brett Barron tied for seventh at 1-over for the third top-10 finish of the sophomore's young career.
Archer Price tied for 12th for his 13th top-20 finish, and
Jake Storey tied for 19th, for his 11th top-20 finish.
Price makes his 35th career start this week, Fisk will make his 27th career start and Jake Storey is in the lineup for the 31st time. Barron plays in his 16th tournament and has played in every event in his short career, while Alakulppi makes his eighth career start. Fisk, Price, Storey and Barron have been in the lineup for the last 13 tournaments, dating back to the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Eagles are paired with San Diego State, East Tennessee State and Idaho and will tee of holes 13-16 in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday.
