Georgia Southern's squad carried a 3.18 GPA for the Academic Year. It is the eighth time overall that the Eagles have earned the honor and the sixth straight year. Georgia Southern was one of four Sun Belt Conference schools to earn the honor in 2016-17.
"We are very proud to earn the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches for the 2016-17 season," Head Coach John Murphy said. "We accomplished much in my first season on campus, but this certainly is the most important honor we earned as a team. I would like to thank my coaching staff and the student-athlete services department staff for supporting our team so well. We couldn't reach these levels of success in the classroom without them. Ultimately, it is about our student athletes, howeever, and their committment to their own education. I am proud of every one of them as people, as competitors and as students."
The Eagles, coming off of a 1-0 road win at Campbell on Wednesday, return to action on Tues., Oct. 17 with a 7 p.m. match at UAB in Birmingham, Ala.
