Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Coastal Carolina

GS continues Sun Belt play against Troy Sunday afternoon

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women's soccer team faced off against Coastal Carolina in a competitive match on Friday night. The Eagles hosted their third straight Sun Belt game at Eagle Field in front of an impressive crowd. The two teams finished the game even in shots (12) and the Eagles were consistently pushing on the offensive side of the ball. Georgia Southern freshman goalkeeper Lauren Karinshak recorded four saves on the night, but an early goal by Coastal Carolina's Daniella Famili was just enough to lead the Chanticleers to a win over the Eagles, 1-0. The Georgia Southern Eagles will now focus their attention on Troy, who they will host on Sunday for their second-to-last home game at 1 p.m.

WHAT HEAD COACH BRIAN DUNLEAVY SAID
"It was a flat start, I was dissappointed in the goal we conceded. Coastal has the run of play and ultimately scored, but from that point on our younger players came on and really showed some great things. We kept possession better, our speed of play was excellent, and we created lots of opportunities," said head coach Brian Dunleavy. "The second half was good soccer from both teams, it was an excellent game. Coastal is an athletic team with some high quality players and a great coach. We were unlucky that foul was called outside the box when it was clearly inside and we deserved a penalty. The referees have a difficult job, and I respect that. That's soccer sometimes, it's been a cruel game to us. I'm proud of our effort and our willingness of our players to do their best to perservere through adversity. If we keep playing the way we are, with a stronger start to games, then we can make a push in these last five games. It's all about grinding out results in this league and we can't dwell on this one. Just have to keep believing in ourselves, and look forward to our next chance on Sunday."
