Men’s Soccer Alumni Day Considered a Huge Success

40 former Eagles returned home to celebrate the program
STATESBORO, Ga. – On Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23, the Georgia Southern men's soccer program hosted its annual Alumni Weekend. With more than 40 former players spanning 36 years making the trek home to Statesboro, the weekend was a huge success for all involved.
Head Coach Kevin Kennedy, who has been at the helm of the program now for 10 years, was impressed and honored so many Eagles and their families took the time to attend the event.
"The 2016 Alumni Weekend was a tremendous success, as we had a large number of former players back on campus," Kennedy said. "I was most impressed with the fact that we were fortunate enough to spend time with players from the program's most recent team (2015), as well as players from the program's first team (1980). My favorite part of the weekend was on Saturday evening when Chris Nowak (1981) shared the story of how our program was founded from humble beginnings in the late 70's and early 80's."
One of the more noticeable alumni in attendance was Jack Evans (c/o 1982) who travelled all the way from Australia just to spend time with his former teammates and the men's soccer family. Evans earned All-Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) honors three-straight years from 1980 to 1982.
The weekend began on Friday night with a social before the group took to the pitch on Saturday for a friendly game against the current squad. Following the game, there was a cookout and social time featuring a highlight video from the 2015 season. During Saturday's social event, alum Chris Nowak (1981) took to the stage and shared with all those in attendance how the program was first founded.
