STATESBORO, Ga.- Once again, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team hits the road this weekend traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina to try USC Upstate on Saturday. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
"We have had a good week of practice and the guys have good energy. We are looking to use that against a good USC Upstate team," head coach
Sander Koning said. "We emphasized the process of playing the game a lot this week and the guys have picked it up well. Now we have to do the same thing against USC Upstate.
"If I look at their season they have had their ups and downs-- they have some good wins so we have to be ready for anything. I believe if we continue to be who we are, a resilient, physical team that stays in the process of the game we will give ourselves the best opportunity."
Over the course of the past week, the Eagles added two more wins to their resume, going 11-5 overall. The first came over Kennesaw State, where the Blue and White notched their first win since 2013 against the Owls.
Ze Moya tallied his first match clinch in the 4-2 team win at line three, while
Andre Johnson grabbed his first doubles win of the spring with partner and fellow freshman Moya.
Although GS started off to a 1-0 deficit against UNC Asheville on Saturday, four Eagles earned singles points to pick up the second 4-2 win of the week, including Johnson who clinched in his three-set battle.
Dani Casablancas,
Rise Lanne and Moya all flaunt winning streaks. Casablancas leads the pack with seven in a row, Lanne with three and Moya with two. Throughout the season, Moya has only lost two of his singles matches and Lanne has only lost one to go 13-1 this spring.
