Women’s Soccer Travels to Georgia State for Rivalry Contest

GS scheduled to play in-state rival at 7 p.m.

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women's soccer team hits the road to face off against in-state rival Georgia State on Friday evening. The Eagles, who are coming off of a huge win over Troy last weekend, are looking to pick up another Sun Belt win with only four regular season games remaining. Georgia Southern and Georgia State will face off at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex in Atlanta, Ga. No video streaming service will be available for the match, but live stats are available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles defeated Sun Belt opponent Troy at home on Sunday, 2-1. Junior Sarah Price put the Eagles on the board early in the second half to score her fourth goal of the season. The two teams continued to battle throughout regulation and the first overtime period, and were two minutes through double overtime when senior Jennifer Wittick kicked a cross to freshman Nicole Aussin, who scored her first goal of the season and clenched the victory for Georgia Southern.

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
The Georgia State Panthers hold a 1-1-3 record in the Sun Belt. The Panthers picked up a win over Coastal Carolina, lost to Texas State, and have tied conference games against Troy, Appalachian State, and UL Lafayette. The Panthers are led offensively by Alexis Thomas, a senior forward leads the team in goals (3) as well as points (7). Goalkeeper Brie Haynes (3-3-4) has played every minute between the pipes for the Panthers, recording 67 saves on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
The Eagles and the Panthers meet for the 21st time in a series where Georgia Southern trails, 6-12-2. The two teams played in Statesboro last season, where the Eagles won 4-3.

SOUTHERN-STATE RIVALRY SERIES
A half point is on the line for both programs in the Georgia Southern-Georgia State Rivalry Series. This will be the first match-up of the 2016-2017 year between the two schools. For more information about the rivalry series, click HERE.
