The storyline
Trailing by four points in the first set, Georgia Southern used a 9-4 run, keyed by the serving of Joscelin Morrow and Spencer, to open a 21-20 lead. With the score tied 26-26, Van Gunst and Lauren Pitz put down consecutive kills to give Georgia Tech a 1-0 lead in the match. Quotables from Coach Dustin Wood
"It was a tough one this morning. We came out a little flat, both physically and mentally. We fought our way back in the first set, had three opportunities to put the set away and didn't capitalize. We dropped the set, which took the wind out of our sails for the remainder of the match. We tried to get back into the match, but we couldn't physically and mentally. This weekend was a good test for us - we had a quality win and a tough match this morning after playing late last night. We are looking forward to being at home next weekend."
