STATESBORO, Ga. –
Megan Chevalier posted 23 kills in two matches and
Alex Beecher collected 48 digs on the day, but Georgia Southern fell 3-1 in both matches of its home tournament, the SpringHill Suites Bash in the Boro, Friday in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Tennessee State topped the Eagles 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23, and Winthrop defeated Georgia Southern 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 26-24. Georgia Southern won the first set of each match but lost three straight sets in both contests.
Katie Bange had 10 kills, 12 digs and 44 assists on the day, and
Stephanie Spencer posted 15 kills and nine digs.
Ashley Jones chipped in 14 kills and six blocks.

The storyline vs. WinthropDown 1-0 in the match, Winthrop fought back from a 23-20 deficit in the second set, scoring three straight points, keyed by kills from Lourdes Rosario and Rachel Lenz. Winthrop kept the run going and won the next two points, and a kill by Emma Weakland evened the match 1-1. Winthrop went on to take the third set and rallied from a 20-16 deficit in the fourth as three straight Rosario kills gave them a 23-22 advantage. Georgia Southern fought off one match point, but Rosario put down another ball and a GS hitting error ended the contest. Rosario finished with a match-high 21 kills, while Madilyn McCarty posted 53 assists, and Carlie Skelton had 20 digs. Winthrop finished with a .310 hitting percentage. Chevalier had 13 kills and hit .435 for Georgia Southern.

The storyline vs. Tennessee StateAfter splitting the first two sets, the Eagles rallied from a 21-12 deficit in the third. Three kills by
Cathrine Murray and a block by Murray and
Lauren Reichard keyed an 11-2 run that tied the score 23-23. The Tigers responded with a kill by Arijana Anderson, and Chloe Watson put down a ball to give Tennessee State 2-1 lead in the match. Georgia Southern led 20-17 in the fourth after a kill by
Katie Bange before Tennessee State used a 6-2 spurt to open a 23-22 lead. Haley Hampton got a kill for match point, and after a kill by Murray, Zahria Graham put down a ball to end it. Beecher finished with 28 digs for the Eagles.
