Nick Wells and Emil Laursen named Sun Belt Student-Athletes of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer took a clean sweep of the Sun Belt weekly awards this week as Nick Wells was named Sun Belt Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week and Emil Laursen was tabbed as Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
Wells, who claimed the offensive award, scored two goals and an assist in Georgia Southern's 4-1 win over Belmont on Sunday. The win secured the Lipscomb Invitational Championship for the Eagles. Wells scored in the 12th and 22nd minutes and added an assist on Emmanuel Raji's 89th minute tally. For his play he was named to the Lipscomb Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Laursen helped the Eagles to a 1-0-1 record on the weekend to claim Sun Belt Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The freshman native of Denmark averaged 95 minutes for the weekend and started both matches at center back.
Georgia Southern visits North Florida on Sunday night. Kickoff between the Eagles and Ospreys is set for 7 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
