Women’s Soccer Kicks Off 2015 Campaign on Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. – With a pair of preseason games already in the books, Georgia Southern Women's Soccer is ready to start the 2015 campaign on Friday against Jacksonville University. The Eagles, in their third season under Head Coach Brian Dunleavy, took two wins in the preseason over The Citadel and North Georgia to prepare for the 18-game regular season schedule which includes nine Sun Belt Conference games.

The Eagles enter the 2015 campaign after being picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt's preseason coaches' poll. Georgia Southern finished tied for third in the final 2014 standings and reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament following back-to-back shutout wins over Appalachian State.

A First Team All-Sun Belt selection from last season, Nora El-Shami earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Preseason team last week after leading the Eagles in scoring in 2014. A senior this season, El-Shami scored seven goals last season to rank tied for sixth in the Sun Belt.

Melinda Lukas backed up her Second Team All-Sun Belt selection a year ago with a preseason All-Sun Belt nod to start 2015. Lukas scored six goals in 2014 as a freshman. In the preseason wins over The Citadel and North Georgia, Lukas scored a goal in each contest en route to an unbeaten preseason.

Eight newcomers open their careers with Georgia Southern on Friday as they play their first game in anger. Following Friday's contest, Georgia Southern will travel to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. That game can be seen live on SEC Network + at ESPN3.com.
