Emmanuel Raji and Jack Falle take Offense and Defense Preseason Student-Athlete of the Year Awards
NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer cleaned up in the awards department on Tuesday as the Sun Belt Conference announced its preseason honors list and coaches poll. The Eagles took four spots on the Preseason All-Conference Team while Emmanuel Raji and Jack Falle were honored as the Preseason Offensive and Defensive Student Athletes of the Year. The Eagles were picked third I the preseason coaches poll, garnering one first place vote.
Hartwick was picked to repeat its 2014 run for the Sun Belt Crown in which the Hawks took a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern in the Championship Game in Statesboro. This year's tournament will be contested in Boone, N.C.
Falle, a Business major, was named a First Team All-Conference honoree in last season and picked up the Preseason Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year Award from the league. He played every minute in goal for the Eagles last season and helped the team to five shutouts in eight wins. He tallied 97 saves and a 1.80 goals against average.
Raji, named Preseason Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year, was a Second Team All-Conference selection last year after he led the Eagles with five goals and three assists for 13 points. The Information Technologies major scored two game-winning goals last year including one in the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championship semifinals. The junior ranked second in the conference in points and goals last year.
Joining Falle and Raji on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team is sophomore Thor Sveinbjornsson who earned Sun Belt Freshman of the Year last season and senior Chase Park.
The Eagles begin the 2015 campaign with an exhibition against Spartanburg Methodist College on Tuesday, August 25th, at 7 p.m. on the turf of Eagle Field. The 2015 season opener is set for Friday, August 28th, against Stetson.
