STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer endured a 268 day offseason following a 1-0 loss in the Sun Belt Championship Game. That wait came to an end on Monday as the Eagles began their quest for the 2015 Sun Belt Championship with a pair of practices on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek.
"The first day was good in terms of being able to see where the fitness level was at for our returners," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "After that we got a chance to evaluate our newcomers and see where we think guys can help us positionally."
The 2015 edition of the Eagles features 17 returning players including four all-conference performers from last season. Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Thor Svienbjornsson returns alongside All-Sun Belt selections Chase Park, Jack Falle and Eric Dinka. Ten newcomers joined the team on Monday to start their collegiate careers.
"We allocated two hours for our second training session today, and I told the guys that we would take as much time as was needed to hit on the concepts and to see the pictures we wanted," said Kennedy. "I was very pleased that we could get all that done in an hour and forty minutes today."
The Eagles will practice twice daily for the next week before classes start on August 17th. The first preseason test for the Eagles will be on August 25th when Georgia Southern faces Spartanburg Methodist College in a friendly. The season opener for the Eagles is the following Friday night as Stetson comes to town.
