STATESBORO, Ga. – Head Men's Tennis Coach Sander Koning named Manuel Barroetavena a graduate assistant coach today.
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Barroetavena played two seasons at Cameron University before transferring to Chattanooga where he played at the #1 and #2 singles positions.
He began his coaching career as a freshman in college and served as an assistant coach at Camp Winadu in Pittsfield, Mass. Once transferring to Chattanooga, he coached at the Baylor School tennis camp in Chattanooga, Tenn. Barroetavena has also taught tennis at the Old Oaks Country Club in White Plains, N.Y. and at the Larchmont Shore Club in Larchmont, N.Y.
"I am very excited to announce Manuel Barroetavena as my new graduate assistant. He comes highly recommended and is a guy who is ready to dive into college coaching," Head Coach Sander Koning said. "His background as a successful collegiate player and his experience playing on the pro tour will bring a fresh perspective to our players."
After graduating with a degree in Business Administration in May, 2013, Barroetavena played tennis on the ITF Pro Circuit and achieved a ATP singles ranking of 1784. His best win on the pro tour came over Roman Recarte, a Davis Cup player for Venezuela.
"I am thrilled to start working with him and Adam Taylor, our volunteer coach, to build this program to be a contender for the Sun Belt conference," Koning said.
Barroetavena plans to pursue a master of business administration from Georgia Southern while assisting in coaching the men's tennis team.
