Softball Catcher AJ Hamilton Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

Junior backstop hits .667 while slugging 1.222 in the series sweep over App State
NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern softball catcher AJ Hamilton has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week following the Eagles' three-game sweep over Appalachian State. Hamilton hit an astounding .667 in the three-game series with a 1.222 slugging percentage, five runs scored and seven RBIs. Hamilton earns the Eagles' first Sun Belt weekly award following a vote of the league's head coaches.
The native of Tallahassee, Fla. reached base nine times in 13 total plate appearances with a pair of doubles and a home run. She hit .667 with six hits in nine at bats. Her two-run home run in the seventh inning of game one helped take the Eagles' to a 6-5 win in eight innings. In the sixth inning of game three, Hamilton's bases loaded single through the left side plated what would prove to be the winning run in Georgia Southern's 11-6 win.
Georgia Southern plays five games on the road this week with a doubleheader at Jacksonville and a weekend series at South Alabama.
