MOBILE, Ala.– Georgia Southern Softball dropped both halves of an afternoon doubleheader at Jaguars Stadium on Saturday. The Eagles fell 7-0 in game one, and dropped game two 11-0. Georgia Southern and South Alabama return to the diamond to close the series at 1 p.m. (CT) on Sunday.
"I feel like we played well in game one, but a few innings got away from us," said Head Coach
Annie Smith. "We had another injury against Jacksonville on Wednesday and having players out of the lineup really cost us today."
GAME ONE – GS 0 – USA 7Eagle starting pitcher
Heather Felt allowed just one hit in the first two innings, but saw four runs cross in the third. The Jags scored their first two runs of the inning via sacrifice flies. A two-run home run from Amanda Minahan scored two more for the home side.
The Georgia Southern offense pounded out five hits in the game including four from the top-four batters in the lineup.
Rowan McGuire added a single from the number-nine slot as the Eagles stranded six runners in the game.
South Alabama tacked on three more in the sixth inning including a solo home run to stretch the lead to 7-0.
GAME TWO – GS 0 – USA 11South Alabama got an early start to game two with five runs in the opening frame off four hits. The home side added one in the second and five more in the third to go up 11-0.
The Jaguars' pitcher, Farish Beard, stymied the Eagle batters with 10 strikeouts and her third career no-hitter.
