Men’s Tennis Senior Garners Academic Awards At Honors Day Convocation

Statesboro, Ga. – Men's Tennis Senior, Albert Codina Sala was honored Wednesday as part of the Honors Day Convocation celebration on the campus of Georgia Southern. Codina Sala earned the Award for Academic Distinction in Economics as well as the Outstanding Scholar Graduating Senior Award.
"I am very happy for Albert, he's an amazing young man, leader and a great example for this team," said Head Coach Alexander Koning. "Since I have been here, he has shown that he is worthy of nothing but the best by showing up every single day really to give it all he has."
The Award for Academic Distinction in Economics honors an excellent student in Economics of Regional Economic Development. The award winner is chosen from among those who apply that meet eligibility requirements as well as the assessment of the committee of the student's intellectual curiosity and active engagement in the classroom as evidenced by faculty recommendations. Codina Sala submitted a well written essay that explained what his goals are after graduation and how a degree in Economics or Regional Economic Development will help him achieve those goals.
The Outstanding Scholar Graduating Senior Award is presented annually to graduating seniors with a GPA of 3.9 or higher at Georgia Southern. Both awards were bestowed upon Codina Sala as part of the Honors Day Convocation celebration at the Performing Arts Center inside the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center.
Concluded Koning, "These awards show how Georgia Southern University recognizes hard work and determination, and that is a great motivator for the younger players on our team."
The 5'11" senior from Manresa, Spain is 18-13 on the year playing primarily in the No. 2 position. He and doubles partner Lanne are 4-2 on the year.
The Eagles return to action Friday when they travel to Louisiana Lafayette for a showdown with the Ragin' Cajuns. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
