STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball opens the 2015 season this weekend with four games in the FSU Renegade Classic in Tallahassee. The Eagles face No. 5 ranked Florida State and No. 6 ranked Kentucky this weekend beginning with a 10 a.m. game on Saturday against the Seminoles.

The Eagles return seven starting position players and two members of the pitching staff for the 2015 season. Last year, Georgia Southern finished with a 35-21 overall record and won the Southern Conference Regular Season Championship with a 15-6 league mark.
Georgia Southern's move to the Sun Belt will be a step up in competition for the Eagles. In 2014, the Southern Conference finished as the 14th ranked league in terms of Conference RPI while the Sun Belt was ranked fifth. The Eagles were picked fifth in the Sun Belt Preseason poll last week after a vote of the league's head coaches.
Sophomore outfielder
Taylor Rogers was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. Rogers hit .381 a year ago while reaching base at a .405 clip as a freshman leadoff hitter for the Eagles. A native of Dacula, Ga., Rogers earned first team All-SoCon honors last year and a spot on the All-Freshman Team in addition to Freshman of the Year honors.
Next weekend Georgia Southern hosts the five-team Eagle Round Robin at Eagle Field. The tournament begins on Friday morning, February 13th, at 10 a.m. Georgia Southern's first game starts on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
