STATESBORO, Ga. – With a 3-5-1 conference record, the Georgia Southern women's soccer team opens up Sun Belt Tournament play on Wednesday against No. 2-seeded Troy (6-2-1). The first-round matchup begins at 4 p.m. Due to excessive water on the Georgia State fields, the tournament will be held at a new location with turf-- the LakePoint Sporting Community, in Emerson, Georgia.
Earlier this season, the Eagles suffered a 1-0 loss against the Trojans, who boast one of the top defenses in the league. The go-ahead goal was put in the 61st minute of play by Chelsey Williams who leads Troy in points (17) and shares the top-scorer title at six goals.

LAST MATCH
Georgia Southern came off of a rough regular season ending, losing their last four games to the top four seeded teams in the conference—South Alabama, Troy, Texas State and Appalachian State. The Eagles ended their three-game shutout against the Bobcats, scoring one goal to Texas State's three.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Trojans ended their regular season on Oct. 25 with a scoreless tie against Little Rock and a 2-1 win against Arkansas State earlier that weekend. Georgia State snapped their five-game winning streak, beating Troy 2-1. The Eagles took a 4-3 victory over Georgia State thanks to El-Shami's penalty goal that secured the game and a hat trick for the senior.

SERIES HISTORY
Georgia Southern looks to even the series this tournament, as the Trojans lead 2-1 after this season's 1-0 victory. Last year, Troy blanked the Eagles 3-0. The only other time the two programs have faced each other was in 1997 when the Eagles dominated 8-1.

NEXT UP
