Beecher Named Second-Team All-Sun Belt

The Eagles made an appearance in their first Sun Belt Championship.

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern junior libero Alex Beecher was named second-team All-Sun Belt, the league announced at the Sun Belt Volleyball Championship Banquet at Nessmith-Lane Conference Center Nov. 19.
Beecher ranks 10th in the country in digs, averaging 5.58 per set, and notched 36 digs against Georgia State Nov. 7 to set a new Georgia Southern career record. The redshirt junior now has 1,732 for her career, which tops Megan Lippi's total of 1,707 from 2000-03.
Beecher has 13 matches with 20-plus digs, including seven in a row from Sept. 18-Oct. 7, and three with 30-plus. She is 30 digs away from breaking her own school single-season mark of 604, set in 2012.
Georgia Southern made its first appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championship Friday, Nov. 20, and the eighth-seeded Eagles hosted top-seeded Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
This year's championship was played in Hanner Fieldhouse Nov. 20-22, as the top-8 Sun Belt teams competed for the title and a berth into the 2015 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship.
