Georgia Southern is hosting its league volleyball tournament for the first time since 2005, when the Eagles hosted the Southern Conference Tournament in Hanner.
Georgia Southern enters the tournament on a two-match win streak and is coming off a 3-1 victory over Troy last Friday night. The Eagles are led by junior libero
Alex Beecher, who became the school's all-time leader in digs recently and is 30 away from breaking her own school single season mark of 604, set in 2012.
Arkansas State wrapped up an undefeated Sun Belt season with a sweep of Appalachian State on Thursday, and the win over the Mountaineers extended the Red Wolves' nation-best winning streak to 21 matches and puts the team at 25-1 on the year with an undefeated conference mark of 16-0.
Georgia Southern trails the all-time series against Arkansas State 4-1 and has lost all four meetings since joining the Sun Belt in 2014.
The Eagles posted a 21-13 record in Southern Conference Tournament matches from 1993-2013 and won four Southern Conference Tournament titles. Georgia Southern won the SoCon Tournament in 2013, its final season in the league. This will be the Eagles' first appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Alex Beecher, who ranks 10th in the country in digs, notched 36 digs against Georgia State Nov. 7 to set a new Georgia Southern career record. The redshirt junior now has 1,732 for her career, which tops Megan Lippi's total of 1,707 from 2000-03. Beecher has 13 matches with 20-plus digs, including seven in a row from Sept. 18-Oct. 7, and three with 30-plus.
Redshirt junior
Crysten Curry collected her 300th career block at UL Lafayette Oct. 16, as she notched six in the match. She ranks seventh in career blocks at Georgia Southern with 319. Her 68 solo blocks ranks ninth, and her 251 block assists ranks sixth.
Setter/right side
Katie Bange has nine double-doubles this season, and five of the nine have included double-figure kills.Â
Setter
Kat Minnerly ranks fifth on the school's career assist list with 2,789. The senior played in her 100th career match against Chicago State Sept. 12.
