The story
Texas State held Georgia Southern to .044 hitting for the match. The Bobcats overcame a 15-14 deficit in the first set with a 7-2 run, keyed by two kills from Jordan Kohl and a kill by Lewis. A Megan Chevalier kill trimmed the margin to 21-19, but Texas State scored the next two points. Down 24-20, Georgia Southern fought off one set point, but an Eagle hitting error gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the match. The Eagles had a 14-10 lead in the second set before Texas State used a 6-0 run, capped by an ace by Smith, to take the lead. With the scored tied 18-18, Texas State scored four points in a row with the help of two Eagle hitting errors to open a 22-18 cushion. The Bobcats went on to take the set 25-19, and the Eagles wound up hitting -.057 in the frame.
Quotable from Coach Dustin Wood
"We competed today with a lot of fire and passion. We played really well in the beginning of sets but could not sustain it through the end of the sets. We made too many errors in a row at times. We did a great job in the middle, and our defense was outstanding again today. (Alex) Beecher had an amazing weekend and is giving our transition offense so many opportunities to score, but our pins are having trouble getting it done in transition and in system. Kat (Minnerly) and Avery (Stephens) also gave us many opportunities today and did a great job. We're looking forward to Wednesday for our matchup against Georgia State."
