Men’s Soccer Goes on the Road to Open the Stretch Run

Three regular season matches remain for the Eagles

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer goes on the road this weekend for a pair of matches north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The Eagles visit Sun Belt foe NJIT on Friday evening in Newark before hopping across Gotham to face LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. Georgia Southern has won three of its last four matches entering the weekend and is tied for second place in the Sun Belt standings.

LAST MATCH
The Eagles downed Appalachian State last Saturday to pick up the team's second-straight conference win. Alfonso Ochoa scored in the third minute for the Eagles to secure the 1-0 victory with is third goal of the year.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern has won three of its last four matches entering this weekend's trip to the Tri-State Area. The Eagles are 5-6-1 on the year with a 2-1 mark in conference matches. Preseason Sun Belt Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year Emmanuel Raji leads the squad with four goals while Nick Wells is the top scorer with two goals and six assists on the year.

SCOUTING NJIT
The Highlanders are 4-7-4 on the year and 1-2 in the league play following a 3-0 victory over Howard last weekend. Netminder Marco Luna earned Sun Belt Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors while earning his fourth shutout of the year. Joshua Mercer has four goals and one assist to pace the NJIT offensive attack.

SCOUTING LIU BROOKLYN
The Blackbirds enter the weekend with an 8-5-2 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in the Northeast Conference. They have won six-straight matches entering this week's matches. Rasmus Hansen has seventeen points this year to lead the LIU Brooklyn offense with seven goals and three assists.

SERIES HISTORY
The Eagles downed the Highlanders 1-0 last year in the first meeting between the programs. Eric Dinka tallied his fourth goal of the season in the win on Senior Day at Eagle Field. Sunday's match will open the series between the Eagles and LIU Brooklyn.

NEXT UP
The 2015 regular season finale is on Saturday night, Nov. 7, as Georgia State comes to Statesboro for a 7 p.m. match. A point in the Southern-State Rivalry Series is on the line as the Eagles look for their second-straight win over the Panthers.
