2014-15 Schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. – Fifteen home dates, non-conference games against in-state opponents Georgia, Mercer and Kennesaw State, 20 Sun Belt Conference contests and a holiday tournament at Florida highlight the Georgia Southern women's basketball schedule, announced by head coach Chris Vozab today.
All but two of the Eagles' home contests will be doubleheaders with the Georgia Southern men's program as the Sun Belt Conference will play all of its men's and women's games as doubleheaders on Thursdays and Saturdays this season. The 15 home games, which include an exhibition contest against Coastal Georgia, are the most since the 2011-12 season.
"We're excited that half of our games this season will be in front of our home crowd, and we hope to draw some fans out early for our doubleheaders with the men's team," said Vozab. "The Sun Belt Conference is a historically highly-competitive, multi-bid league, and protecting our home court will be a key to our season."
Fans will have their first opportunity to see the Eagles when they host the Mariners in an exhibition game Nov. 6. The Eagles open the campaign at Lipscomb Nov. 14, and play their regular-season home opener against Jacksonville four days later.
Georgia Southern travels to Georgia Nov. 25, and after a road game at Jacksonville State Dec. 2, the Eagles host Mercer Dec. 6. Two games at the Gator Holiday Classic cap the non-conference portion of the schedule Dec. 21 and 22.
The Sun Belt portion of the slate starts Dec. 30 at UT Arlington as the Eagles play six of their first eight league games on the road. Georgia Southern's first home Sun Belt game will be against Texas State Jan. 3. The Eagles host former Southern Conference opponent Appalachian State Jan. 29, which starts a stretch of five straight and seven of eight conference games at home.
Georgia Southern's home Thursday Sun Belt games will tip off at 5 p.m., while the Saturday contests are slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
The 2015 Sun Belt Women's Basketball Tournament runs March 11-14 in New Orleans with the top-eight teams in the regular-season standings earning a berth. Lakefront Arena at the University of New Orleans will host the tournament for the second-straight season.
Georgia Southern returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last season, including three of its top-four scorers and rebounders. For more information about tickets for the 2014-15 season, contact the Georgia Southern Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-GSU-WINS or tickets@georgiasouthern.edu.
