Men’s Soccer Routs Presbyterian College, 5-0

Eagles post second-straight shutout

CLINTON, S.C. – Georgia Southern rolled to a 5-0 rout of Presbyterian College on Tuesday night as the Eagles continued their high-powered offensive output. The Eagles have scored 13 goals over their last three matches and picked up the first road win for either side in the seventh meeting in the series between the Eagles and Blue Hose.

Jack Falle was stellar in goal for the Eagles with seven saves against 20 shots by Presbyterian College on the night. He earns his second-straight shutout as the Blue Hose have struggled offensively of late, not scoring in their last four matches.

"Jack had a very good night, perhaps his most complete game this season," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "I was really all our defenders, but Chris MacMurray has done a great job to step in for an injured Chase Park. The game tonight really opened up for us, especially as Presbyterian College kept pushing forward. I'm also very excited that we've had a bunch of different guys scoring for us this season."

The Eagles had their shooting boots on as the squad scored five goals for the second time this season. Dalton Churchwell opened his career scoring account in the 22nd minute by taking advantage of some lazy Blue Hose defending. He stole the ball off the defender and scored 1v1 with the keeper to put the Eagles ahead, 1-0.

Just five minutes before the break, Eric Dinka got his first goal of the season when a long rebound off a shot came to the striker in space. He took a touch and struck the ball past the keeper to double the Eagle lead to 2-0.

After halftime the match evened out with the Blue Hose looking dangerous in their attacking third. The Eagle defense held and it was the offense that broke the PC's backs as David Vargas Masis scored his third goal of the season. The Eagles, playing "Route One Football" sprung Masis up the middle with a through ball from Churchwell who tallied three points on the night.

More goals came in the 82nd and 88th minute when Eagles Adam Abdellaoui and Jeremy Rector scored goals off counter attacks in the waning minutes to put the match on ice. The goal was Abdellaoui's first collegiate score, while Rector recorded his third of the season.

Next up for the Eagles is the second of four-straight road games. Georgia Southern travels to face Jacksonville on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Georgia Southern will host the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championships on November 13-16, 2014 from Eagle Field in Statesboro. The league's teams will convene in Statesboro with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Make plans to be at the friendly confines for all the action.
