Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Eagles Blanked at Jacksonville, 3-0

Men’s Soccer travels to South Florida on Wednesday night

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Georgia Southern's three-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to Jacksonville. Next up for the Eagles is a trip to South Florida on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.

"We had some chances in the first half and things were even," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "We failed to capitalize on opportunities in the box early in the second half. When Jacksonville scored, it really changed the complexion of the match and they were able to get three goals."

David Vargas Masis had a golden opportunity to put the Eagles ahead in the 19th minute when he earned space and struck a bending shot which hit the woodwork, and was cleared by the defense. Georgia Southern tallied six shots in the first half with three on frame as the match was tied 0-0 at halftime.

Just 12 minutes after the break, Jacksonville broke the deadlock with a goal from Allan Morgan. He was fed by a pass from Ejiroghene Mrabure to score from 18 yards out. A second goal came in short order as Adam Stevenson pushed across a loose rebound from a shot by Mrabure on 63 minutes to make it a 2-0 advantage for the home side.

The Dolphins got their third game in the 83rd minute with a penalty kick by Juan Arguedas. Jacksonville earned the spot kick as an attacker was hauled down at the edge of the danger area.

Vargas Masis led the way for the Eagle offense with three of the team's 10 shots in the contest. Goalkeeper Jack Falle made five saves in the match against 14 total attempts by JU.

The Eagles play the third of four-straight road games on Wednesday night with a trip to South Florida. The Bulls and Eagles square-off at 7:30 p.m. from Tampa's Corbett Soccer Stadium. Sun Belt Conference play begins on October 12th as Hartwick comes to Statesboro for a Sunday matinee.

Georgia Southern will host the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championships on November 13-16, 2014 from Eagle Field in Statesboro. The league's teams will convene in Statesboro with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Make plans to be at the friendly confines for all the action.
