Georgia Southern plays its first home matches of the season this weekend, and the contests are also the Eagles' first home Sun Belt matches. Georgia Southern takes on undefeated Appalachian State, which is receiving votes in this week's AVCA Poll, Friday at 6 p.m. and plays host to Arkansas State Sunday at noon. Both contests are at Statesboro High School.

Students get in free with student ID cards. Admission for the general public is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12-and-under. Admission to Sunday's match is free for everyone.

Senior Jamie DeRatt is 275 kills and 265 digs away from 1,000 for her career. Senior Kym Coley is 329 kills away from 1,000 for her career, and junior Crysten Curry is 80 blocks shy of 300 for her career, which will put her in seventh on the school's all-time list. Junior Kat Minnerly needs 315 assists for 2,000.

Coley has been named one of 30 candidates for the Senior Class Award for excellence, both on and off the court. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.

The Eagles have faced three top-20 teams and six opponents from Power-5 conferences in its first nine non-conference matches this season.

Georgia Southern was picked third in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll, and DeRatt and Coley each garnered preseason all-league recognition.

About Appalachian State
Former Southern Conference foes, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern have played 44 times with the Mountaineers holding a 29-15 edge in the all-time series, which began in 1989.

Georgia Southern has won the last three meetings against Appalachian State since the Mountaineers topped the Eagles 3-2 in the 2011 SoCon Tourney quarterfinals. The Eagles beat App 3-1 in last year's semifinal round en route to winning the league title.

With an 11-0 mark, the Mountaineers are the first Sun Belt team in league history to finish non-conference play with a perfect record.

About Arkansas State
This will be just the second meeting between Georgia Southern and Arkansas State. The Eagles defeated the Red Wolves 3-1 in last season's Magnolia Invitational at Ole Miss.

Arkansas State has won its last four and opens its Sun Belt slate against Texas State at home Friday.

Libero Markie Schaedig ranks second in the country in digs with 6.12 per set.
