Former Eagle Named Pitcher of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former Georgia Southern Eagle and second round draft selection of the Chicago White Sox, Chris Beck, was named the 2014 Birmingham Barons Pitcher of the Year.
Beck went 5-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 20 starts for the Double-A affiliate. Beck was promoted to Class AAA Charlotte on July 28, where he was 1-3 in seven starts. He ranked eighth in the Southern League in ERA upon his promotion and allowed just 44 earned runs in 116.2 innings pitched.
Beck played three seasons for head coach Rodney Hennon and the Georgia Southern baseball team from 2010-2012. Beck capped off the Eagles 2011 Southern Conference Tournament championship and went the distance in a 1-0 shutout over Samford. For his efforts, he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
