Women’s Soccer Faces Alabama State and North Florida This Weekend

Eagles look to improve on 4-1-0 start to the season

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Women's Soccer returns to action this weekend with a pair of home games against Alabama State and North Florida. The contests bookend the Springhill Suites Invitational which includes a slate of four games on Friday and Sunday. The Eagles are off to one of their best starts in program history with four wins from the first five games of the season.

Merson Matches Shutouts Record
Eagle goalkeeper Katie Merson picked up her second shutout of the season and the 16th of her career to match Tanya Woehr for the career shutouts record. Woehr played for the Eagles from 2000 to 2003 and has the best career goals against average with a 1.08 mark. Merson set the single season school record for shutouts in 2012 with 10 in the Championship season.

Two for Wittick in Season Debut
Sophomore Jennifer Wittick made her 2014 debut in style with a pair of goals to push the Eagles past Mercer. She played 35 minutes in the match and scored her first goal from the penalty spot just two minutes after entering the game. Her second goal came by the head as she nodded in a Nora El-Shami corner kick on 75 minutes.

Sun Belt Play: Coming Soon
Georgia Southern's inaugural season in the Sun Belt Conference features four home games beginning on October 3rd when Arkansas State comes to town. Two days later the Eagles will face Arkansas Little Rock at the friendly confines.

GATA Game set for October 24th
The 2014 Women's Soccer GATA Game is set for October 24th against Texas State. The marquee contest is a chance for all Georgia Southern student-athletes to come together and support each other.
