Chapman Earns Second Freshman All-American Honors

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Garrett Chapman was named Second Team Freshman All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association on Monday. The award was the second for Chapman after an outstanding freshman season.
Chapman was the first freshman Eagle since 1984 to lead the team in batting average and hit .341 in 59 starts in the infield. The freshman third baseman also hit seven doubles and eight home runs with 32 RBI.
Chapman was also selected as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on June 4.
NCBWA selected a total of 32 standout freshmen to its 2014 Freshman All-American teams. The two teams feature players from 17 leagues and six conference championship teams including the Eagles, who won the 2014 SoCon Tournament Championship.
The 2014 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 10.
