Men’s Tennis Signees Excel in Summer Tournament Play

Two members of Class of 2014 earn solid results against top-level opponents

STATESBORO, GA. – Two future members of the Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team have aced their opponents in early summer tournaments. Ristomatti Lanne won the singles and doubles draws of the Finnish Tour's stop in Oulu. Eduardo Landin took a third place finish in doubles at the Buffalo Summer $22,000 Championships. Both players made their respective tournament appearances as amateurs.
Lanne won in straight-sets in the first three rounds of the Oulu tournament to reach the finals. In the singles final he took a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Concordia University's Juuso Ojanen who finished the season as the No. 3 ranked player in the NCAA Division II ranks. Lanne teamed up with Ojanen for the doubles tournament where they won the semifinals 6-2, 6-0 and clinched the final over the team of Panu Virtanen and Henrik Sinkko.
"Ristomatti is hungry to come in and have an opportunity to play Division I tennis," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "That was a very solid win in the finals over Ojanen and it is great to see tournament wins in preparation for our fall season."
Landin, playing in the Open doubles draw with Ignacio Garrido tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win to reach the semifinals where the pair fell to the eventual tournament winners, George Tibil and Alexey Kalinin, recent graduates of University of Buffalo. In the third place match, Landin and Garrido defeated the team of Lance Vodika, ranked as high as 649 on the ATP Futures Tour, and Tony Miller from the University of Buffalo. Landin and Garrido responded from a 6-2 first set loss to win the match 6-3, 6-3.
"This was a great event for Eduardo to compete in, the draw featured state high school finalists, current and former Division I players and players with Futures level experience and success," said Zieziula. "Eduardo is part of a very strong recruiting class that we have starting in the fall, we are excited to start working with this group."
