NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Charlie Martin carded a 69, and the Georgia Southern men's golf team is in sixth place after the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championships at Vanderbilt's Legends South Course Friday.

Martin (-3) is tied for second with Alabama's Trey Mullinax and Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart. Zach Munroe from College of Charleston shot a 67 to lead the field at 4-under-par.

Martin birdied holes 4 and 5 and made the turn at 1-under. The junior bogeyed hole 11 and birdied 13 and 14 before finishing with four straight pars.

Top-ranked Alabama (-3), the only team to shoot under par, leads the pack, followed by Kennesaw State (+4), College of Charleston (+5), Vanderbilt (+5) and Louisville (+8). Georgia Southern (+9) shot a team total of 293. The tournament features six top-50 teams, including the No. 48 Eagles.

Henry Mabbett finished with a 74, Hayden Anderson and Scott Wolfes shot a 75, and Will Evans posted a 76.

Mabbett had a great day except for the 10th hole. Even-par at the turn, the sophomore posted an 8 on the par-4 10, but recovered nicely with a birdie on 14 and saved his round with an eagle on 18.

Wolfes sandwiched a bogey on hole 15 with birdies on 14 and 16 and was 2-over heading to 18, where he double-bogeyed the par-5 hole.

Anderson played the front nine at 3-over and birdied hole 14 to get to 2-over. The senior logged bogeys on the next three holes before finishing with a birdie on 18. Evans was a par machine with 13 on the day but had three bogeys on the front and two on the back.

"It was a tough, windy, soggy day on the course, and we hung in there despite a few mistakes," said Georgia Southern coach Larry Mays. "Charlie played great and put in a solid round to lead the team. Hopefully, with a little better weather and by cleaning up our mistakes, we can climb the board tomorrow."

The second round of the three-round tournament is slated for Saturday, and the Eagles will tee off hole 1 at 8:50 a.m.
