SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes has been named the Southern Conference Golfer of the Month for March, the league announced today.
Wolfes turned in a pair of top-5 showings in three March tournaments, finishing the month with a stroke average of 71.78 and earning a pair of SoCon Golfer of the Week awards for his performances.
Wolfes won the Schenkel Invitational, Georgia Southern's home tournament, with a 7-under-par 209. He beat out a competitive 90-player field that included six ranked teams and 15 ranked individuals, becoming the first Eagle golfer to win the Schenkel since 1989 and just the third overall in the 35-year history of the tournament. Wolfes fired a 4-under 68 in the final round, with rainy and soggy conditions on the back nine, to help Georgia Southern secure its first team title at the event.
The junior had another top-5 showing at the FAU Slomin Center Invitational to close the month, turning in a 4-under 209 to tie for fourth. Wolfes again shot 4-under in the final round, as his 67 helped the Eagles to a runner-up team finish. The top-five individual finish was the 10th of his career.
The Eagles are back in action at the Mason Rudolph Championships, hosted by Vanderbilt at the Legends Course in Nashville, Tenn. The tournament begins tomorrow.
