Softball Visits Furman for Crucial Weekend Set

Eagles travel to face Paladins for final time in regular season play

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball's final tour around the Southern Conference continues this weekend with a three-game set against the Furman Paladins. Georgia Southern enters the weekend on a seven-game winning streak and a league-leading 11-1 league record. The series starts with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader which starts at 1 p.m. The set concludes with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m.

SERIES REACHES CENTURY MARK
Saturday's first game between the Eagles and Paladins is the 100th career meeting in the all-time series with the Eagles holding a 60-39 advantage.

PURVIS BREAKING RECORDS
Sarah Purvis has already claimed two major school record this season and has a chance to earn a few more. The senior pitcher from Warner Robins is the career strikeouts and wins leader at Georgia Southern with 57 victories and 653 strikeouts enter this weekend's series. Additionally she needs 80 more strikeouts to tie her own single season strikeouts record of 253 strikeouts in the 2012 campaign.

OTHER EAGLES ON PACE
Kourtny Thomas is working on some records of her own entering the stretch run of the regular season. The senior shortstop needs six home runs to match Megen Smith's 2010 mark of 18 home runs. Currently, Thomas is tied with Sue Lanier for the highest slugging percentage in school history (.737) and ranks fifth for single season batting average (.386).

LAST TIME IN GREENVILLE
The Eagles picked up a three-game sweep over Furman to close the 2012 regular season and clinch the program's first regular season SoCon Championship since the 1996. The Eagles out-scored the Paladins 13-2 with a 23-10 advantage in the hits column. The Eagle pitching staff recorded 29 strikeouts over the weekend, including 17 from Sarah Purvis.

EAGLES BACK AT HOME NEXT WEEK
The Eagles will play their second-straight midweek contest at the friendly confines against the Jacksonville Dolphins. The late-afternoon doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. with game two set for approximately 6 p.m.
