Eagles Come Up Short in Final Day of Tennessee Invitational

Eagles fall to Western Kentucky and No. 3 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, TENN.  – Georgia Southern Softball's seven-game win streak came to an end on Sunday as the Eagles dropped a 3-0 result to Western Kentucky and a 2-0 decision to Tennessee to close the Tennessee Invitational. Georgia Southern opens its final SoCon Regular Season next weekend with a trip to UNCG.

GAME ONE
GS 0, WESTERN KENTUCKY 3


Western Kentucky got a pair of runs in the opening inning of the game to post an early 2-0 lead. WKU took advantage of two Georgia Southern errors in the sixth frame to add another run.

The Eagle offense was blanked on the day, producing no runs and just three hits.

Brooke Red took the loss to fall to 6-3 on the season. She went all seven innings and allowed two earned runs off four hits. She fanned nine batters in the game.

GAME TWO
GS 0, #3 TENNESSEE 2


Tennessee struck for a run in the third inning sacrifice fly. The run ended a school-record 37.0 inning scoreless streak for Sarah Purvis in the pitching circle. The home team tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning off another sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game.

The Eagle offense out-hit the Volunteers 5-2, but stranded a total of nine runners on base including three in the sixth inning.

Purvis held Tennessee to just two hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. She was saddled with the loss to fall to 8-3 on the year.

Georgia Southern opens SoCon Regular Season play next weekend with a three-game set against UNCG. Play begins on Saturday at 1 p.m.
