Women's Tennis Earns a Victory Over Western Carolina

STATESBORO, GA.- Georgia Southern women's tennis conquered Western Carolina this afternoon, 5-2. The Eagles improve their record to 5-8 overall, and are 1-4 in the SoCon. After a 6-match losing streak, GSU notched their first SoCon win.

"I'm proud of the team for picking up a win today," said head coach Amy Bonner. "We played very solid in doubles and carried that momentum with us into singles. We will enjoy the win for now and then focus on Sunday's match against another solid SoCon opponent tomorrow."

The Eagles swept the Catamounts in doubles play, earning the doubles point for the advantage. Paola Garrido and Mary Phillips Smith defeated Stacia Kissel and Shannon Bettiol, 8-4. Giulia Riepe and Stephanie Woods were victorious against Megan McLinden and Sara Ruiz Pajares, 8-0.

Jordana Klein picked up a win in singles play, beating Shannon Bettiol 6-2, 6-3. Giulia Reipe prevailed over Sara Ruiz Pajares, 6-0, 6-0. Mary Phillips Smith put down Erin Maguire, 6-0, 6-3.

The Eagles next time out is Sunday, March 16th, at 12pm at the Wallis Tennis Center against Appalachian State.
