Men's Tennis Drops to UCF and Stetson

ORLANDO, FL.- Georgia Southern men's tennis suffered tough losses last weekend to University of Central Florida and Stetson University, both final scores 7-0. The Eagles traveled to Orlando, FL on Saturday, February 1st and headed to Deland, FL on Sunday, February 2nd.

"We battled hard today, but we didn't execute well enough against a very solid UCF team," said head coach Nick Zieziula of their match on Saturday. "We had early leads in first sets on 1,2,4 and 6 but didn't stay solid enough to finish those leads.  Kerrigan did a god job of stepping into the doubles and that is good experience that he can build on."

On Saturday against UCF, Eagles Kyle Hoffman and Rafael Racy lost in doubles play 6-1. Albert Codina-Sala and Marco Osorio fell 6-2 to Kiku Aulina and Matthew Gladstone. In singles play, Oliver Webb played a competitive match against Matthew Gladstone, but was defeated 2-6, 6-2, 6-5. Kyle Hoffman fell to Chris Barrus 6-5, 6-4.

On Sunday against Stetson, Oliver Webb and Christian Kerrigan defeated Laurynas Antropikas and Graham Ball 6-4, but the Eagles fell in the other two doubles matches resulting in Stetson claiming the doubles point. In singles play, the Eagles fought but were unable to secure any wins.

The Eagles are now 0-4 overall, but are hoping to improve their record in their next match on Friday, February 7th, against East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
