Eagles open postseason against Georgia State on Friday night
NEW ORLEANS – The Hartwick Hawks earned the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship, finishing the regular-season with a 5-0 win vs. Howard. The Hawks clinched the top seed with 10 total points to edge Georgia Southern and Georgia State which finished tied for second place in the regular-season standings with nine points.

The Hawks went 4-9-4 overall this season and posted a 3-1-1 record in conference play. Hartwick opened conference play with a 0-0 tie against Appalachian State before it earned key wins against Georgia State (2-1), Howard (5-0) and NJIT (1-0) this season. The Hawks await the result of Thursday night's matchup between No. 4 seed NJIT and No .5 seed Appalachian State to learn their opponent in their first match on Friday night.
Georgia State (8-9-0, 3-2-0) earned the No. 2 seed following a 1-0 victory on Saturday night against in-state rival Georgia Southern (7-8-0, 3-2-0). The Panthers edged the Eagles in the tiebreaker based on the head-to-head win with the Eagles earning the No. 3 seed. The two teams will meet again in the semifinals of the tournament at 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
Georgia Southern is the host institution for the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship. The tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 13 when No. 4 seed NJIT (7-7-4, 2-3-0) takes on No. 5 seed Appalachian State (6-7-3, 1-2-2) at 6:30 p.m. ET from Eagle Field. The winner of that match advances to face No. 1 seed Hartwick on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
