STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Football student-athletes
Matt Dobson and
Garrett Frye were named to the 2014 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team today, representing the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Individuals must have had a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key reserve to be nominated. The selections from eight districts advance to a national ballot for voting for Academic All-America honors.
The Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Frye, a two-time pick to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, is a three-year starter at offensive tackle for the Eagles and has a 3.77 GPA in Exercise Science. He is a mainstay on the Georgia Southern offensive line that has posted the highest rushing average in the nation at 404.2 yards per game and a per-game average of 519.3 yards of total offense that would rank ninth nationally. Frye, from Cumming, Ga., is a two-time selection as Georgia Southern University's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
From Monticello, Fla., Dobson, a two-year starter at safety, has a 3.73 GPA in History and makes his first appearance on the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team this year. With 41 total tackles, two interceptions and a key forced fumble this season, the junior has helped the Eagles to an undefeated 6-0 mark in the Sun Belt Conference.
