Chapel Hill, Nc. – The Georgia Southern Divers completed day one at the Nike Cup hosted by the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
Competing in the 3 meter dive Thursday, two Eagles, Emma Weisel and Erin Hembree completed six dives for scoring. Of the 31 competitors, Weisel placed 23rd in the prelims while teammate Hembree finished 29th.
Weisel posted a 220.05 with an average round score of 36.68. Hembree managed a 187.70, averaging 31.28 per round. Leading the way through the preliminary round was Carey Chen of the University of Michigan. Chen posted a 336.50 total score and averaged 56.08 per round.
"Overall, I thought the divers had a good 3 meter meet," said Assistant Coach/Diving Coach David Giambra. "Neither diver put together a full list, but each did some really good dives. Both Erin and Emma were featuring new dives and I'm proud of how they completed those dives. Tomorrow, we compete on one meter before heading back to Statesboro."
