11/19/2014 10:10:00 AM | Swimming and Diving
Statesboro, Ga. – The swimming and diving team heads into competition this week, however, the two facets of the team will compete in different locations and in different events. The swimming team will take to the pool in the Wingate Fall Frenzy while the diving team will compete in the prestigious Nike Cup.
The swim team will get underway Friday from the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The three-day event will be a championship meet format where both prelims and finals will be contested. To access live results, fans are encouraged to download the Meet Mobile app. The order of events is listed below.
"We are looking forward to the Wingate Fall Frenzy this year," commented Head Coach Nate Kellogg. "Our women have been training very well and have been very focused in their approach to this meet. This is a championship format meet, and we are looking forward to having a lot of opportunities to race in the format. I believe we can put up some very good times and race tough even though we won't be suited up or rested."
The diving team will make their way to the campus of University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill to compete at the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational. The event will feature 11 teams in competition and will have both prelims and finals. The top-8 divers will compete in the A finals, while divers placed 9-16 will compete in the B finals. The B finals will begin at the conclusion of the prelims while the A finals will be held in the evening.
"This meet will have the best competition of any meets we will compete against this year outside of the Zone Diving Championship," said Diving Coach David Giambra. "I'm looking forward to seeing how our divers compete this week. We are coming off a great meet against Clemson, and I expect to see some great diving at UNC."
