Women's Tennis Gives Back To Community
Statesboro, Ga. – The women's tennis team took the opportunity to give back to the local community last week when they volunteered at the Westwood Nursing Center. After their morning classes were complete, the team spent the afternoon playing Bingo with the nursing center's residents.
"We helped set up a bingo day for the residents to come in and spend their afternoon with us," said Lauren Mueller. "It was so nice to see how much they appreciated our visit, and I met such wonderful people. By the end of the afternoon, every resident who played bingo had won a prize and I thought that was wonderful to see them all so happy for winning. Being a member of the National Charity League back at home volunteering at various locations has become something I enjoy very much. The feeling you get after helping someone out is just wonderful. As a team, getting to volunteer together brought us even closer than before. Having these experiences together has made us grow as better friends over the past couple of months. The team is very welcoming and going through this together was just another team bonding experience for us."
Teammate Jordana Klein added, "The last time I played bingo was probably 10 years ago when I went on a cruise with my family. I did not think twice about how privileged I was at that time. Looking back at my time at Westwood, I will forever be thankful that I was able to hopefully make someone's day by participating in their weekly bingo session. The people at Westwood were incredibly friendly and so appreciative that student-athletes took time out of their day to play bingo at their home with them. The smile on my partner's face when she won her first round of bingo was so rewarding, and I look forward to volunteering in the community with my teammates again in the future."
