
Eagles Complete Day One Of The Georgia Southern Championships

Day Two Gets Underway Tomorrow At 9:30 a.m.
Statesboro, Ga. – On day one of the Georgia Southern Championships, the Eagles saw six student-athletes take the court at the Wallis Tennis Center. In the flighted round robin format, each competitor played two singles matches on day one.
"Overall we competed very well today. We had some solid wins but most importantly you could see that the guys were really focused in their matches on the areas of their game that we have been working on for the last few weeks," remarked Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "We got better today because we were making good tactical decisions. I am excited to see our doubles teams compete tomorrow and keep that same mindset going."
The A flight saw Albert Codina Sala go 2-0 on the day with wins over David Durham of Kennesaw State 7-6(4), 7-6(5) and Richard Meade of Florida Atlantic 6-4, 7-6(5). Teammate Eduardo Landin split the day 1-1 with a victory over Richard Meade 6-3, 7-6(5) but suffered a setback at the hands of Alejandro Valencia of Kennesaw State 7-5, 2-6, 5-7
In the B flight Nico de Groof went 0-2 on day one after falling to Kennesaw State's Drew Wendel 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-7(5) and Florida Atlantic's Alexander Gitin 5-7, 3-6. The C flight featured Pradeep Raja who fell 0-2 on day one with losses to Kennesaw State's Evan Holvoet 2-6, 1-6 and Florida Atlantic's Ignacio Jimenez 2-6, 4-6
Flight D saw Daniel Casablancas go a perfect 2-0 with victories over Matthew Johnson of Kennesaw State 6-4, 6-2 and SCAD's Sean Hajdu 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the E flight Robbie Thompson split day one 1-1 by defeating SCAD's Zach White 7-5, 6-1 and falling to Alex Pena of Kennesaw State 2-6, 1-6.
