NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern senior Anna Claire Knight has been named second-team Preseason All-Sun Belt in a poll by the league's 11 head coaches, it was announced today.
Knight was a 2014 All-Southern Conference selection and earned second-team all-tournament honors. The guard ranked third in the league in scoring with 15.9 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists a contest. She became just the third Eagle to score 400 points in a season since 1998-99 and the sixth player in school history to top the 1,000-point mark in her junior season. Knight scored in double figures in 27 games, topping the 20-point mark in five contests, and tallied the first triple-double in program history with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Samford Jan. 6, 2014.
The Eagles were picked 10th in the league's Preseason Poll, one spot ahead of UL Monroe. Arkansas State is picked to win the league, followed by UALR, Texas State, Georgia State and Troy.
Georgia Southern returns eight letterwinners from last year's squad, including three of the top-5 scorers and rebounders. The Eagles begin their first campaign in the Sun Belt, a historically multi-bid women's basketball league, and will play a 20-game round-robin conference schedule – all doubleheaders with the men's team.
Season tickets are on sale now for a substantial savings off the single-game price. General admission season tickets start at just $65 with reserved seats available starting at $90. Fans can purchase a reserved combo ticket for men's and women's games for $120.
